Calvin Martin Sr. was born September 7, 1937, in Coleman, Georgia, to the late Madison and Florine Martin. He was the sixth child of ten children.
Calvin attended Coleman public schools. He joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Upon finishing school, Calvin began to work at Farris Plywood Company. During this time, he married the former Annie Doris Cooper and became a father to one son, Calvin Martin Jr., who preceded him in death. Calvin worked at Burgin Lumber Company in later years.
He and his family moved to Dorchester, Massachusetts, where he lived for years. Calvin and Annie Doris decided to go their separate ways, but he stayed in Dorchester.
Time passed, and he met and married the former Barbara Lou March, who had three daughters. Barbara passed away a few years ago, leaving Calvin alone. He had some devoted cousins–James "Head", Sue, Steal and Foy–who all kept in touch as his health began to fail.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memories two brothers, Arthur Martin of Coleman, Georgia, and James Martin (Bessie) of Blakely, Georgia; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
