Doris Hubbard Obituary

GOD opened Heaven’s Door and sent HIS Angel, Doris Bernice Hubbard, into the world on March 5, 1921. Her parents were the late Edna Mosely and Charlie Bradford Hubbard.

Doris was born in Blakely, Georgia, where she was raised and educated in Early County School System. She graduated from Early County School and attended one year of college at Albany State College.

At an early age, she received CHRIST as her SAVIOR and was faithful member of Prospect African Methodist Episcopal Church. As a young woman, she spent a great part of her life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she worked as co-owner for a dry cleaning business. Later in her adult life, she returned home to Blakely to care for her mother until her death. Doris was well known in the community and loved by many in her hometown. Her caring, generous and friendly spirit was her way of sharing and helping others. She loved GOD and treated everyone with love, kindness and respect. Doris dedicated her life to helping family and the community by driving them to various appointments on a daily or weekly basis. She called herself a missionary for GOD. She enjoyed visiting with seniors at the senior center and nursing home.

Doris Bernice Hubbard was the loving mother of three children: Benjamin "Rocky", Maxine and James. She was also the proud grandmother of Johnnie "Stevie" Watson III and a great grandmother.

Doris loved to drive her car and travel. Neighbors always remarked, "Ms. Doris, every time I see you, you are turning the corner in your car". She enjoyed eating at nice restaurants with Maxine, James, Rocky and grandson Stevie. Every restaurant or store she visited she always asked, "Do they sell Baby Ruth candy here?" Not a day went by that she was not eating or asking for a Baby Ruth. Doris loved the color red and always enjoyed wearing her red lipstick and rouge.

Doris was called Home by THE LORD on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 when she slipped away in her sleep early that morning. Affectionately call "Mama Doris", her family, loved ones and friends will miss her smile, her laughter, her potato salad, iced tea, cakes and pies.

Doris was preceded in death by her brothers Charlie Richard Hubbard and Alfonzo Hubbard. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her son, James; daughter, Maxine; and son, Rocky; her grandson, Johnnie Watson III, his wife, Chinyere Watson, and their twin boys, Elias Bradford and Greyson Braxter Watson; her siblings: Alonzo, Salah (Sheryl), Jerome (Lynell), Joe, Gregory, Elliot (Mary), Rommel, Jean (Booker), Betty (James), Lilian, Clara, Beverly (Andre); nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host friends.

May she rest in peace. She was a beautiful lady with a beautiful heart. She lived a long and fruitful life. She was a good and faithful soldier and fought a good fight.
