Welcome to the memorial page for

Annie Mae Hicks

July 18, 1923 ~ July 10, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Annie Mae Hicks was born July 18, 1923 in Hilton, Georgia to Cleveland Waters and Mattie Philmore Waters. Having lost her mother at an early age, she was raised by her father and Eunice Waters. Annie Mae attended school at Good Hope African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was also a lifelong church member.

She married the late Jewell Hicks around 1943. To this union ten children were born; two infants and one son, Cleveland "Hoochiboy" Hicks, preceded her in death. Her seven surviving children are Doris Clark of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Arenetta Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia, Henry Hicks of Donalsonville, Georgia, Mary Jones of Jakin, Georgia, Beverlyn Davis of Bainbridge, Georgia, Mattie Williams of Gordon, Alabama, and General "Jim" Hicks of Jakin, Georgia.

Annie Mae was well known in the community for her welcoming spirit and open heart. These trademarks are only surpassed by her famous cakes. You could always stop by and have a slice or take some home. She was always a help to anyone who crossed her path. She loved to read her Bible daily as well as a good book. Annie loved to watch soap operas in the afternoon while sitting in her comfortable chair.

Annie Mae departed her earthly life on Monday, July 10, 2017 at home in Jakin, Georgia. She left behind a legacy of love to be cherished by her loved ones.

Also preceded in death by two grandchildren (Dedrel Hicks and Kelvin Tolbert), Annie Mae leaves to cherish her memory nineteen grandchildren: Anthony Hicks, Tommy Tolbert, John "Jr." Hicks, Corey Wilson, Angelia Wilson, Rodney Hicks, Byron Ford, Terri Batch, Devan Tolbert, Tanya Wooten, Brandon Ford, Brian Ford, Brandy Moreland, Kamel Lane, Erica Williams, Nicole Turner, Lee Hicks, Glenn Scott, and Lisa Clark; thirty-two great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Annie Mae was an extended family member to the Reed-Shingler Family. They treasure the memory of her presence and influence on their lives.
