Carrie "Sweet" (Powell) Nicholson

June 10, 1934 ~ October 15, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Carrie Powell Nicholson ("Sweet") was born on June 10, 1934, to the late Hosie Freeman Powell and Bertha Hall Powell in Blakely, Georgia. During her formative years, Carrie joined Oak Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was involved in a variety of church activities and blossomed in THE LORD.

Education was a huge part of her life. Carrie attended Early County public schools, including Sardis, which was held in the Oak Grove AME Church. Upon her graduation from Washington High School in 1951, Carrie furthered her education by attending and graduating from Fort Valley State College with a B.S. Degree in Biology.

After receiving her degree, "Sweet" moved to Boston, Massachusetts. It was here that she met and married Albert Roy Nicholson. This union produced three children: Craig, Carol, and Cameron. Deciding to teach, Carrie moved back to Georgia and was employed as a biology teacher for several years.

In 1976 Carrie moved to Houston, Texas and joined Sloan United Methodist Church under Pastor Hayes, where she became an active member until her latter years. During this same time period, she worked in the Research Department of Baylor College of Medicine. After which she became a County Clerk for Harris County Judge Richard C. Vara until retirement.

Carrie Nicholson departed her earthly life on Sunday, October 15, 2017. In addition to her parents, her husband Albert Roy Nicholson and brother Jim Frank Powell preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory three children: Craig Nicholson (Monique) of Fort Worth, Texas, Carol Bates (Rondald) of Waller, Texas, and Cameron Nicholson of Sugarland, Texas; five grandchildren: Courtney Bates, Derrick Bates, Jordon Nicholson, Mya Nicholson, and Mekhi Nicholson; four siblings: Calvin Powell, Ozie Powell Lewis, both of Blakely, Georgia, Hattie Powell Duncan of East Orange, New Jersey, and Doris Powell Smith of Browns Mill, New Jersey; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends.
