CATHRYN JEAN BROWN was the youngest child born to the late Andrew James Brown and Melvina Norfus Brown in Blakely, Early County, Georgia, on June 9, 1957. She was affectionately known as “ROTTEN GUT” to family members. She was nurtured by her second mother Carrie McDaniel Brown. She received her education through the schools of Early County School System.
Cathryn was known to always have a big smile on her face. She was a fun-loving comical person even until her final breath. She was a member of Jerusalem African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served as an Usher and Announcer. She was employed by Brew-Apparel as a young adult. Her career later spanned as a nanny for families in the Early County area. She retired as a social technician for Early Miller Service Center.
Cathryn was a pillar of the community, being generous to the elderly, as well as people with special needs. She gave her time and annual contribution to the Heritage Inn Personal Care Home and Davita Dialysis Center of Dothan, Alabama. She enjoyed traveling with her siblings on cruises, as well as multiple trips around the country with family and friends. Cathryn was a passionate and competitive Scrabble player. Although she did not birth any children, she loved her nieces and nephews dearly; and they all enjoyed her witty personality that brought a contagious joy to anyone who was around.
In addition to her parents, others who preceded her in death include her siblings Walter C. Cook, Gladys Jones, Raymond Brown and James Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memories her six siblings–one brother, George Marvin Brown of Blakely, GA; and five sisters: Verna Hazel of Columbus, GA, Dorothy Glenn Lucas of Douglasville, GA, Janie Zackry (Jerry), Dorcas Maxine Colvard, both of Griffin, GA, and Mandy Moses (Marzell) of Blakely, GA; and three sisters-in-love: Brenda Brown of Griffin, GA, Annette Brown of Winter Garden, FL, and Cheryl Brown of Stone Mountain, GA. Through her passion for people, she embraced Sylvia Lyles as her own daughter.
