1The seventh of eight children, Christine Hollinger Harris was born to the late Mr. William and Mrs. John Nona Hollinger in Blakely, Early County, Georgia on December 25, 1929. What better gift to receive on Christmas Day than the bundle of joy delivered to the Hollinger Family! She received her education through the schools of Early County. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Henry Grady Harris, and to this union were born four sons, including a set of twins.
She was a member of Jerusalem African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served faithfully until her health failed. Sister Harris enjoyed singing in the choir and would many times sing herself happy exclaiming “I thank YOU LORD, I thank YOU LORD for the journey YOU’VE brought me; YOU’VE brought me from a mighty long ways”. She was a faithful servant of GOD, knowing that HE was the source of her strength and joy.
During the last several years of her life, her health failed. She moved into the home of her son Calvin and his wife Shirley. These two, along with assistance from Shirley’s Sitting Service, provided excellent and devoted around-the-clock care until GOD called her Home on Saturday, February 4, 2017. She will be missed, but we realize earthly loss is Heavenly gain.
In addition to her parents, those who preceded her in death include her husband, Henry Grady; son, Grady Jr.; two brothers, Marcellous Hollinger and Vinson Hollinger; and four sisters: Hattie Ford, Virgina Fudge, Thelda Jenkins, and Mary Eunice Norfus.
She leaves to cherish her memories her sons: Henry Glover Harris (Cindy), Alvin Harris (Bettie), and Calvin Harris (Shirley); nine grandchildren: Nikki Williams (Connell), Michael Harris (De’Lisa), Derrick Harris (Nikki), Marlin Harris, Whitney Harris, Simon Harris (Monique), Keyontavious McCoy (Shavon), Britannica McCoy, and Al’Shondra Harris; six stepgrandchildren: Craig Ranson Jr., Walter Ranson, Shabreka Brown (Lacedric), Chenique Brown, Tiffany Baldwin, and Laquashia Gary; twenty-four great grandchildren; nineteen great stepgrandchildren; one sister, Jetta Moses; two sisters-in-law, Myrtice Hollinger and Clara Hollinger; a special nephew, Nathaniel Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
