Dennis Bernard Cawthon

GOD saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb.  HE gently closed your loving eyes and whispered, “Peace be thine”.  GOD called Dennis Home to Rest on January 10, 2024, after a lengthy illness.  

Dennis was born September 9, 1988, the son of Willie Charles Cawthon Sr. and Sally Catherine Smith Cawthon.  He was a native of Blakely, Georgia.

He was introduced to CHRIST at an early age and joined the Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church as a youth.  In 2013, Dennis was baptized as an adult when he joined Church Street Church of Christ in Blakely under the spiritual guidance of Minister James E. Scurlark.

Dennis graduated from Early County High School in 2007.  After graduation, he attended ABAC College in Tifton, Georgia;  Bainbridge College in Blakely; and Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama, obtaining his credentials as an LPN.  Dennis loved helping people while working at Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center and CSL Plasma in Dothan.

He was joined in marriage to Tonya Smith.  They later divorced.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father Willie Charles Cawthon, paternal grandparents Robert and Edna Cawthon, and maternal grandparents Sampson and Jurrie Smith.

Dennis leaves to forever cherish his memories his loving mother, Sally Catherine Smith Cawthon of Blakely, GA; son, Dennis Brent Cawthon of Dothan, AL; brothers:  Willie C. Cawthon Jr., Eric Cawthon and Dennis Smith; all of Blakely; aunts:  Patricia Smith, Greadine Smith, Jurrie Mae Mulkey, Lillie Smith, all of Blakely, and Tharyl Cawthon of Atlanta, GA; uncles, Kenneth Smith of St. Petersburg, FL, and Jeremiah Smith of Blakely; niece, Bianca Foster;  great nephew, Dallas Foster; special friends:  Arthur Dean Wimbush, Gloria Jean Balkcom and Breannea Williams; and a host of cousins and friends.
