Elder Larry W. Grimsley was born on April 15, 1955, in Donalsonville, Georgia to Doris Grimsley and the late Wysmon Grimsley.
He departed his earthly life on Friday, September 18, 2020, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital (North Campus) in Albany, Georgia.
At a early age, Elder Grimsley joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jakin, Georgia. He graduated Early County High School in 1973. That same year after graduation, he joined the United States Army, actively serving for a few years. He attended Minnesota Graduate School of Theology, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Ministry. In 2017, Elder Grimsley attended The Board of Examiners in Columbus, Georgia and became an Ordained Elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 2017.
He formerly pastored Mount Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church (Jakin, Georgia), Beulah African Methodist Episcopal Church (Colquitt, Georgia) and Saint John (Donalsonville, Georgia) African Methodist Episcopal Church. Elder Grimsley was currently pastoring at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Hilton, Georgia. He was currently employed by United States Department of Agriculture in Bainbridge, Georgia.
Each day with Elder Grimsley was joyful. He had a free spirit and a kind heart. He had a genuine love for his family, friends and church members. We will miss him, but the memory of is life, love and legacy will live on with us.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Lena Grimsley; children Larry Grimsley, Jr. (Monike), LeNard Grimsley (Ashley) and Lerelle Grimsley (April); grandchildren Da’Layla, Jaylen, Za’Kiyah and Josh; mother, Doris Grimsley, sisters: Marie Hall (Ted), Juanita Grimsley, Kathy Wilcox (Earnest), Anna McCoy (Elijah) and Doris Robinson (George); his brother: Robert Little (Lataria); many loving and caring aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; other relatives; church members; and friends.
