Hammond Davis Jr. Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Hammond “Bubba” Davis Jr., a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Hammond was born on October 17, 1939, in Blakely, Georgia, where he also departed this life on September 27, 2024, at the age of 84.  He loved THE LORD and was a faithful member of St. Maryland Missionary Baptist Church until his health declined.  His life’s journey spanned nearly eight and a half decades, leaving an everlasting mark on everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

Hammond Davis Jr. was the cherished son of the late Hammond Davis Sr. and Fannie Mae Davis, who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and love for family. He was a proud native and a retired farmer of Blakely, Georgia, where he lived his entire life in the place that he was proud to call home.

Hammond’s life was rich with love and faith.  Though he faced the heartache of losing several loved ones, he remained a pillar of strength for his family.  He was preceded in death by his loving parents; two sisters, Bobbie Lee Price and Willie Mae Davis; one son, David Eaford Jr.; and one grandchild, Jimmy Jiles Jr.  His resilience in the face of adversity was a testament to his character and enduring spirit.

Hammond was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Cenell George Davis, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage, until she departed this life in 2021.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, cherished memories, and countless lessons in strength and perseverance.  Hammond is survived by his seven devoted children:  Linda Davis Darmoh, Carol Bush, both of Ft. Myers, FL, Genette Comfort, Brenda Eaford, both of Alexandria, VA, Ricky Davis (Keitha) of Atlanta, GA, Dorothy Hall (Ken), and Terry Davis (Vicki), both of Blakely, GA.  He also leaves behind 27 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; and a multitude of nephews, nieces, other family members, and friends, including three special friends:  Garfield Graham, Franklin “Brother” Swann, and Tim Watkins, who will all miss him dearly.  Each person carries a piece of his spirit, ensuring that his memory will continue to live on by sharing his funny jokes, stories, and words of wisdom.

As we say goodbye to Hammond Davis Jr., we remember a life well-lived and a man deeply loved.  His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift us, reminding us of the importance of family and friends.  Rest in peace,“Bubba”; you will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
