Brother Lonnie Davis Jr., the eldest child of Lonnie Davis Sr. and Ida Balcom-Baxter, was born July 18, 1931, in Hartford, Alabama.
He joined the United States Army, and during his twenty-three years of honorable service, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He served in the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. Lonnie was distinguished as a "Sharp Shooter" in the Vietnam War.
Lonnie Davis Jr. worked with the Early Memorial Nursing Home in Blakely, Georgia, as a security guard for numerous years. He also worked at Camp-E-Tu-Nake as a Night Shift Supervisor and a Licensed Transportation Driver for youth trips for approximately fourteen years.
He was a member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church. He served as a Trustee, Sunday School Adult Class Teacher, and various other capacities as needed.
Lonnie met the love of his life, the former Roxie Ford. They were united in Holy Matrimony on July 17, 1965.
Brother Lonnie Davis Jr. departed his earthly life on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at his residence in Jakin, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, Will and Callie Balcom.
He leaves to cherish beautiful, fond memories his loving wife of fifty-three years, Roxie Ford Davis of Jakin, Georgia; one son, Neal Davis of Grant, Florida; two daughters, Gail Davis and Laconda; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Churchwell of Dunnellon, Florida; as well as, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was well-known in his community, but to know Mr. Lonnie Davis Jr., you had to "Know Him".He has fought the good fight; He has finished his course; He kept the faith; Finally, there is laid up for him the crown of righteousness.
