Mamie James Obituary

Mamie Lee James, lovingly known as “Ms. Red”, was born to Marcellus and Lucy Stovall on February 22, 1934.

She married the late Sherrod James in 1954.

At a very early age, “Ms. Red” joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until her transition. While at Morning Star, she served as an Usher, Missionary, and the Mother of the Church.  She was also a member of the prayer band that visited different churches each week to praise God.

“Ms. Red” retired from the Early-Miller Training Center, not only as a bus driver but as someone who was a listener, caretaker and mother to the clients at the center. To know “Ms. Red” was to love her. She was a true woman of GOD with unwavering faith. After church, you could always count on her to have a home-cooked Sunday feast ready to feed her family and those to whom she acted as a motherly figure.  Her warmth, smile, strength and faith were undeniable. “Ms. Red” made certain to enjoy her life by loving on her family and traveling.  She was a woman who spoke her mind and kept herself well dressed with her extravagant hats. Over the years, “Ms. Red” made sure to keep her home open to those in need of love, prayer, motherly advice, a good meal or a much needed laugh.  She made the most of the eighty-seven years with which GOD blessed her, and we are beyond thankful to have experienced her strong, yet warming presence.

On August 22nd, God called “Ms. Red” home letting her know “Servant, Well Done”.

She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and four sisters.

She leaves to mourn a very special companion of twenty-five years, Charlie Tolbert; six kids who include Eddie (Linda), Willie C. (Rachael), Mary, Teretha (Jerome), Edwin (Rita), Paula (Clifford); one godson, John Oliver (Cathy); a loving sister, Lucy; twenty-seven grandkids:  Ryan (Natalie), Leon (Jessica), Eddie Jr., Monica (Terdell), Ganorris, Thwonder (Leon), Kimberly, Katrina, Sheddrick, Willie Jr., Angie(Will), Julius, Nicole, Renata, Latasha (Kendrick), Lakeisha (Chris), Jerome Jr., Lashanda, Candice (Amir), Erika, Cody, Tatquitia, Dominique, Tia, Kaiana, Tyneshia, Jermaine and John Jr.; sixty-five great grandkids; and host of special nieces, nephews and cousins.
