Martha (Evans) Henderson

Martha Evans Henderson was born to the late Wylene Evans Bankston and Willie Murrell in Blakely, Georgia, on March 24, 1954.  She graduated from Early County High School in 1972 and furthered her education at Columbus Technical College in Columbus, Georgia.  In 1985, she graduated and received her Georgia State License as a Master Cosmetologist.

On July 1, 1972, she married the love of her life, Robert L. Henderson.  They enjoyed forty-nine years of marriage together.  During these years, she traveled with “Rob”, as she affectionately called him, during his military career.  They have lived in many places in the United States and for seven years in Augsburg, Germany.

Martha’s work history spanned many years. In Augsburg, she worked in the dining facility at the Military Intelligence Command.  Upon returning to the United States, she was the very first person hired to work at the Pizza Hut in Blakely, Georgia, in 1987 as their Assistant Manager.  She later went on to become the Manager of the Pizza Hut in Donalsonville, Georgia.  She retired in 2007 after twenty years of service.

Martha departed her earthly life on Friday, February 18, 2022, at her home in Blakely, Georgia.  In addition to her parents, one sister, Helen Fearrington, preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband, Retired United States Army SFC Robert L. Henderson of Blakely, Georgia; three sisters:  Jeanette B. Gregory (Gus Sr.) of Ridgeland, South Carolina, Gloria B. White (Alfonso) of Duluth, Georgia, and Charlene B. Irving (Willie J.) of Midland City, Alabama; one brother, Stevell Bankston of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; three aunts:  Marjorie E. Jackson of Blakely, Georgia, Annie Doris Evans of Cocoa, Florida, and Tommie Jean Watkins of Cochran, Georgia; one uncle, Daniel Washington of Sharpe, Florida; three brothers-in-law:  Richard Henderson (Jeanette) of Albany, Georgia, Calvin Henderson (Margaret) of Decatur, Georgia, and Larry “Pete” Henderson Sr. of Wrightsville, Georgia; nieces; nephews; cousins; extended family; friends; 
and her constant companion, Ambia “Pootie” the Cat.
