Martha Gean Martin was born on Thursday, September 23, 1943 to the Reverend P.W. Williams and Tena Mae Williams. She was baby sister to Peter Jr., Andrew, and Mary. Later, she became the big sister to Robert.
As a young child, Martha accepted the teachings of Christ and joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church.
Martha was a proud 1961 graduate of Miami Northwestern Senior High School and later attended Florida Memorial University. Her nurturing spirit combined with a passion for art and music led her to teach music at several kindergartens. As a caregiver, and strict disciplinarian, Martha thrilled at helping children learn. Her nieces and nephews, are a testament to that and hold loving memories of gratitude for their Aunt Martha. As a pianist, she played for several church choirs. Martha enjoyed listening to different types of music, including that jook-joint music of the ‘60s that was forbidden in her preacher-father’s house.
Some of her favorite pastimes were making arts and crafts, watching Nigerian “Nollywood” movies, and playing games on her cell phone. Most of all, she enjoyed her dear puppy, Bebe. In the latter years of her parents’ lives, Martha was their devoted caregiver.
As Martha journeyed through life, her spiritual walk with God became even closer and stronger. On Wednesday, June 24th, breath-by-breath and step-by-step, Martha made her transition. Now, she is walking all over God’s Heaven.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Martin and her parents, Rev. and Mrs. P.W. Williams.
Martha leaves a very grateful family to celebrate her life. They include her sister, Dr. Mary Williams Davis Johnson; brothers, Rev. John Paul Williams, and Robert Cooper; Cherished nieces and nephews--Sharna Davis Hatcher, Esq. (John), John Anthony Williams (Tonya), D. Antoinette Williams, Tena Hatton, Peter Williams, III, Alvin Williams, Alan Williams (Valerie), Kathy White (Marvin), Darryl Williams (Felicia), Petina Cooper, and Kwame Williams; and a host of beloved family and friends.
