Minnie Gilbert Alexander

Minnie Gilbert Alexander was born on August 2, 1939, to the late John Calvin Gilbert and Corrine Severson Gilbert.  Ms. Alexander was summoned by GOD’S Heavenly Angels and departed this life on January 3, 2023, in Columbus, Georgia. Ms. Alexander was married to George L. Alexander Jr. who preceded her in death in 1972. 

Ms. Alexander joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member for many years.  She raised her children in the church and taught them the importance of following Christian values.  Ms. Alexander was an active member of the church and was always eager to serve.  Ms. Alexander was passionate about visiting the nursing home and helping others.  Ms. Alexander served on the hospitality committee providing a welcoming experience for the pastor’s anniversary, homecoming, revival and other special church events.  Ms. Alexander was a member of The Traveling Angels, a community choir that ministered the Word of GOD through song at churches in Georgia, Florida and Alabama.  Ms. Alexander later joined Anointed Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful servant of GOD until her death.  As her health declined and she could no longer drive, it was the church community, friends and family who stepped in to make sure she was able to attend church.

Ms. Alexander was affectionately known as “Mitt” by everyone in the community.  Ms. Alexander believed that it took a village and was instrumental in the lives of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She loved her family and was always willing to help them in any way that she could. The family could always count on her sense of humor and loving advice. 

Ms. Alexander was preceded in death by seven siblings:  Lucile Cawthon, Annie Ree Graham, Calvin Gilbert, Willie Gilbert, John Gilbert, Curtis Gilbert, and Harvey Gilbert.

Wonderful memories of Ms. Alexander will be forever cherished by her five children:  Joseph Gilbert (Linda) of Nashville, TN, Charles Alexander of Jacksonville, FL, Sylvester Alexander (Belinda) of Columbus, GA, Richard Alexander of Odenton, MD, and Mildred Alexander-Moses (Maurice) of Waldorf, MD; three siblings:  Mary Gilbert of Upper Marlboro, MD, Ruby Gilbert of Blakely, GA, and Howard Gilbert of Blakely, GA; one sister-in-law, Maelene Alexander of Blakely, GA; six grandchildren:  Jonathan Alexander, Yolanda Alexander, Quinnella Alexander, Shunnella Alexander, Maurice Moses Jr., and Matthew Moses; and two great grandchildren, Jordynn Isabella Marie Alexander and Journee Noelle Alexander.  She will be forever remembered by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
