Lamarcus Jerome Lee was born on December 26, 1957 in Blakely, Georgia to the late Bobby Lee Sr. and Orrie Bell Lee. He was the youngest of eight children. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Gwen Lee, and brothers: Bobby Lee Jr., John Lee, and Hubert Lee.
Lamarcus was known as “Buddy” among his family. He attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at a young age. He graduated from Early County High School in 1975.
After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While serving in the military, he continued his education and graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aviation Management. During his Air Force career, Lamarcus earned several military awards, medals and recognitions. He achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E-8). He served in the U. S. Air Force nearly twenty-six years before retiring in 2001.
Lamarcus was known as “Lee” to his friends and neighbors in his community of McDonough, Georgia. He will be remembered as friendly, kind hearted and funny. Lamarcus was very close with his family and loved going home to Blakely, Georgia. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards and watching basketball, football and western movies.
In recent years, he struggled with alcohol addiction and grief from the loss of several family members and close friends. In spite of that struggle, it was the effects of an aggressive cancer which took its toll on his body and led to his peaceful transition on
Friday, March 10, 2017.
To cherish his memory he leaves his wife of thirty-seven years, Betty Townsend Lee of McDonough, GA; daughter, Kristal Kay Lee of Snellville, GA; two sons, Lamarcus Jamaal Lee of Alexandria, VA and Michael Perry of McDonough, GA; seven grandchildren: Serrina Lee, Jameela Lee, Malcolm Lee, Yousef Lee, Amira Lee, Zainab Lee, and Michael Perry Jr.; three sisters: Barbara Davis (James) of Blakely, GA, Sandra Johnson (Theodore), and Marva Kay Richey, both of Raleigh, NC; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
