Thelma Louise Swanson was born on April 12, 1953, in Blakely, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Jacob Stapleton and Mrs. Myrtle Griffin-Stapleton.
Thelma accepted CHRIST as SAVIOR in her life. She was a former member of Restored House and Upper Room Ministries, later joining Glorious Community Church. She frequently visited and fellowshipped with other churches as well.
Thelma met and married James Swanson of Pine Level, Alabama. He predeceased her.
In her early years, “Eve”, as she was affectionately known, loved and cared for many of her nieces and nephews. In her latter years, she took on a motherly duty with her great niece Latoya Stapleton and then Latoya’s children Travese Leath Jr., Tamar Leath and her “baedy” Takari Leath.
Thelma departed her earthly life on Wednesday, September 12, 2022, at Southeast Health Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Lillie Mae Kegler-Hall, Ammie Stapleton, and Nora Mae Reed; and two brothers, John Stapleton and L. A. Stapleton.
She leaves behind a legacy of love that will be forever felt by family and friends. Survivors include her three sisters Lillie Bell Russell, Willie Bell Jackson (Nate) and Martha J. Stapleton; her two brothers Jacob Stapleton Jr. (Virginia) and Nolan Stapleton; and her close friend Bruce Lee.
